#005 – Spice Wars: Attack of the Corporation

In this episode of Rome Wasn’t Burnt in a Day, Josh and Chris go deep into the history one of the most infamous corporations ever, The Dutch East India Company. The Dutch East India Company, or VOC, was found in 1602 in a response to the Portuguese Royal Family shutting down their trade routes to Netherlands. What started as a small conglomerate of merchant ships soon became one of the largest and most powerful corporations in history and now serves as a blueprint for how modern corporations are structured today.
